The Industrial Designer I will be responsible for organizing, planning, managing and executing innovative structural packaging solutions across the Tyson organization. Special emphasis will be on highly visible innovation projects in the Retail, Club, and Foodservice businesses. This individual will work with project teams to investigate and recommend packaging materials, forms, function, processes and equipment to bring assigned projects to successful conclusion. They will be part of the Packaging team working closely with Package Engineers. Additionally, they will provide design and technical support to Product Development, Business Units (BU) and Graphic Design team, Supply Chain, and Procurement. The individual in this role will also support Supply Chain and the BU function in manufacturing of packages that meet customer and consumer expectation for character, cost, and quality. The Industrial Designer I will need the ability to effectively manage/recommend projects that retain the design intent of the brand and will lead to opportunity for innovation, growth, IP and profitability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
-Application of consumer insights into innovative design solutions across a multitude of packaging formats.
-Ability to participate in programs that require direct contact with consumers through participation of qualitative research including home visits, ethnographies and focus groups.
-Conceptualize, draw and develop new packages formats having an average level of difficulty and complexity.
-Regularly present sketches and design work to category leaders.
-Leverage suppliers to help define and spec materials and processes used in fabrication and assembly.
-Work closely with Packaging Engineering to develop package specifications and validate prototypes.
-Manage multiple design projects and/or programs and develop new packaging platforms to support product innovation.
-Responsible for assuring all projects are seen through to completion including documentation and protection of intellectual property.
-Develops self and others utilizing the Tyson 5C's (collaboration, commitment, creativity, caring, and candor).
-Other duties as assigned.
